Aluminum Float System — Discovery Islands Aquaculture

Aluminum Float System — Discovery Islands Aquaculture

A Discovery Islands fish farm needed a new aluminum float system to replace aging wooden floats that were becoming waterlogged and unstable. The new system needed to support equipment, personnel, and withstand the strong tidal currents between the islands.

We fabricated a modular float system using marine-grade 5086 aluminum alloy — chosen for its excellent saltwater corrosion resistance and weldability. Each float section measures 8x20 feet with sealed air chambers and non-skid diamond plate decking.

The sections connect with bolted aluminum flanges and rubber isolation pads to absorb wave action. We also fabricated custom cleats, tie-down points, and equipment mounting brackets integrated directly into the structure.

The Challenge

Strong tidal currents and constant saltwater exposure demanded a float system that could handle dynamic loads while resisting marine corrosion for decades.

Our Solution

Designed and fabricated modular 5086 aluminum float sections with sealed air chambers, non-skid decking, and bolted connections with rubber isolation pads for wave absorption.

The Result

The float system has been in service through two winter storm seasons with zero structural issues. The modular design allows the farm to reconfigure sections as operations change.
